Thomas Leppard Lecture: "Social Complexity and the Mediterranean, 3500-1000 BC"

Thomas Leppard, Center for Cultural Analysis Postdoctoral Fellow at Rutgers University, will give a lecture entitled "Social Complexity and the Mediterranean, 3500-1000 BC" on April 11, 2016, at 6 pm.

In the wake of a pan-Mediterranean turn exemplified by Cyprian Broodbank's The Making of the Middle Sea, this paper explores whether we can talk about social complexity of, rather than in, the Mediterranean. Current models of Mediterranean hierarchies are reviewed, and the utility of approaching complexity as an outcome of responses to the vagaries of Mediterranean environmental organization considered.
