About

Cheyenne Strickland is a Ph.D. student in classical archaeology at Florida State University. She obtained her B.A. in history from Jacksonville State University in 2019 before working for five years as an educator and collections manager at the Anniston Museums and Gardens in Anniston, Alabama. In 2022, she joined Florida State University’s M.A. program, obtaining a degree in classical archaeology in 2025. Her master’s paper, entitled “Multiculturalism, the Social Body, and a Gendered Death: A Study in the Roman Fayum,” provided an in-depth study of three Fayum portraits, analyzing them for indications of identity and gender expression. Her research interests include identity, mortuary practices, and indigenous methods of resistance in Egypt during the Greek and Roman periods. She has excavated in Greece and served as registrar with the Lechaion Harbor and Settlement Land Project, and acted as both excavator and supervisor at the Tell Atchana/Alalakh excavations in Türkiye.
